Reading Slump - no more

I was chit chatting with an almost friend when he mentioned ‘I can’t read much.’ Ever since I’ve been wondering that how can someone not read? For me reading is a part of my life, one of the happiest parts of my life. Like there is eating and bathing, there is reading.

The satisfaction to browse through Goodreads for hours, the excitement of buying books and the unmatched happiness of visiting the Book Fair, you would know these emotions if you are bibliophile.

There are days when I can read for hours together (without considering the Instagram breaks) and then there are days when I am slower than a snail. But I am always reading.

Here are some tips that’ll help you get over your reader’s block.

Read short stories

You usually buzz through short stories and the best part is that they don’t take much time. Also no hassles of continuity.

Stick to one book at a time

So you are reading or rather planning to read a Gabriel Garcia, Rumi and Humans of New York all together. The result, you’d be reading none. Stick to one book at a time during the dull groggy days.

Read something heartwarming

Reading something gooey, warm and mushy is a great idea. The romance will make sure you get over the much dreaded reading slump. Choose a happy YA read and let its magic work!

My recommendations –
  • Handle with Care – Jodi Picoult
  • All the Bright Places – Jennifer Niven
  • Landline – Rainbow Rowell
  • Me Before You – Jojo Moyes
  • The Little Coffee Shop of Kabul – Deborah Rodriguez
  • Wedding Night – Sophie Kinsella
  • Eleanor and Park – Rainbow Rowell
  • One Plus One – Jojo Moyes
  • December Breeze - Meeeeeeeeeeeee :)

Read on Kindle

I wonder is it just me or you all also tend to read faster on Kindle…The best part is that the progress encourages to keep going!

Read a murder mystery/ thriller

Gillian Flynn or Agatha Christie, whatever you choose I am sure a mystery or thriller will help you overcome your reader’s block effectively. The excitement and curiosity is a powerful driving force.

My recommendations –
  • The Silence of the Lambs – Thomas Harris
  • Salvation of a Saint – Keigo Higashino
  • Gone Girl – Gillin Flynn
  • Millennium Series – Stieg Larson

And remember it is not any challenge. You read for pleasure, so enjoy it.
Happy Reading
