Ode to Paa - Letter from a loving daughter!

 

Do you believe in signs? It’s dad’s birthday today and I want to acknowledge one of the recent signs that he gave me.

It has been so long now that some memories are fading, you know like those old photographs with edges swiveled. They might not have the same clarity, but the heartache of grief remains the same whether it has been four years or 40. 

Happiest memories from the mountains!!

I still remember his fragrance (might sound dramatic, but as good as I am with words I cannot put this feeling into words). This winter as I opened the cupboard, the whiff of nostalgia engulfed me in a happy way. While some days the fragrance brings back memories of sun-kissed days in the mountains and enjoying vacations together, other days it becomes the scent of dread when I was in constant fear of losing him (those last days in the hospital are beyond the scale of pain 1 – 10). 

Like I always say, reminiscing life and his memories one sign at a time. It’s strange that I find a DHL magically wherever I go, giving me a signal that I am around and everything will fall in place. And the other sign is what inspired me to get back to writing because I know he wants me to do it!!

In all these years that you’ve been gone,  I’ve tried everything remains just the way you liked it. But glad to say, a lot has improved also and I am sure you’re seeing it from above and feeling happy about it. Me and Maa are stronger than ever, SM helps us and our parties in 920 continue (without you, but with your memories). Taking care of mom and your car in the most previous way, just the way you would like it.

Only two things missing  - your skills of parallel parking has not yet been fully acquired by me, and finding the courage to drive in the mountains. But considering you always seem to be around and I’m sure after listening to my prayers you’ll work your magic and this shall also happen soon.
