Top 10 books for vacations

Hi everyone!
I am back after a small bout of sickness and bleh. Since it is summers and holiday season I thought of sharing with you all my top 10 vacation reads.

So with rain by my windowpane, RD Burman songs in the background and my strawberry tea as accompaniment, let’s begin.

  • The Shopaholic Series (Sophie Kinsella)

Vacations, summers, happiness and Sophie Kinsella books! She’s the queen of chick lit. If you are in the mood of some uplifting, humorous, feel good reading Sophie Kinsella wouldn’t disappoint.

The Shopaholic Series is so much fun, just like the vacations. Read this before watching the movie and let the enjoyment soar high!

  • Love Like Crazy (Megan Squires)

It is such a happy feeling when a book exceeds your expectations. This random Goodreads recommendation turned out to be a darling!
Chai stories!
Just like how butter melts on warm toast, ‘Love Like Crazy’ melts in your heart. It has all the elements of a summer read – overflowing emotions, teen romance, YA vibes and friendship goals.

Read it in the mountains, read it at the beach, read it in your bed…just read it.

  • The Love Detective (Alexandra Potter)

Sometimes all you need is sunshine and love!

Restore your faith in love and YA reading with this allaying and toe-curling read. It is about a young author’s journey to India to get over writer’s block and find out the true meaning of love.

Adventurous and happy, it matches the summer vacation vibe perfectly. Read it on your next vacation and you'll not regret it!

  • Fangirl (Rainbow Rowell)

Choosing one Rainbow Rowell book as a favorite book for vacations is such a difficult thing to do. Landline, Attachments, Eleanor & Park - I love them all. Fangirl love is just a teeny bit more, thus, it makes it to this list.
I read it on my last vacation in the pristine hills of Lansdowne and thoroughly enjoyed! Hope you have the same feeling :)
The right amount of romance, emotions and drama makes Fangirl so lovable. Experience the joy of YA reading at an all new high with this epic book.
Perrrfect for that beach vacation!

  • Salvation of a Saint (Keigo Higashino)

In the mood of some thrillers and murder mysteries, then this is what you should be reading.
Salvation of a Saint was the first Keigo book that I read, and ever since it has been one of my favorite thrillers.
Its fast paced, so there is something happening every time. A page turner that keeps you guessing right till the end and shocks you majorly with an amazing end!

  • The House that BJ Built (Anuja Chauhan)

Assuming you’ve read Those Pricey Thakur Girls.
Set in Delhi, this one is a bomb of a book. There’s family drama, emotions, bitching and the handsome Samar! The ‘hero’ine of the show is Bonu. Powerhouse of revenge and strength.
Just what you need on a lazy summer afternoon!
Read this if you are in the mood of a mighty laugh, some swooning and make your holidays “Happier Holidays”

  • Room (Emma Donoghue)

The Oscar winning ‘Room’!
Watch the movie if you still haven’t, and read the book if you still haven’t. Its heart wrenching, frustrating at places and extremely emotional. The best part is that the movie is as good as the book [Bibliophile Problems].
Jack will win your heart and Ma, helpless yet so courageous is amazing.
PS – Keep tissues handy when reading or watching this.

  • Wild (Cheryl Strayed)

The much talked about and the much loved travel book had to make it to this list.
A liberating and powerful book, it traces the journey of Cheryl through the myriad landscapes of USA. How Cheryl takes on the journey, finds new colors of life and heals herself is what the book is about.

Read it after your road trip to get back the memories, or read it and get some inspiration for the next road trip!

  • The Guardian (Nicholas Sparks)

Yet another tear jerker in the list! Love, loss, second chances and faith, Nicholas Sparks amalgamates them in a heavenly concoction.

The Guardian is like the ice popsicle – delicious, soothing and heartwarming. Just like the popsicle this one also leaves a sweet after taste. Sip some lemonade, put your feet up and let the world pass by as you lose yourself in Sparks’ love struck world.
Brownie points for adorable Singer – the Great Dane puppy in the book.

  • How Hard Can Love Be? (Holly Bourne)

I save the favorites for last! This is the 2nd book in the Normal Series, but you can read it standalone as well.

Cannot describe how happy and gleeful I was while reading this one. Summers are all about young energy, romance – bromance, happy relationships, friends and when all this is mixed with Vodka, you can imagine what epic exuberance it is.
You know my heart feels something that’s beyond words when I am in the mountains, and I felt the same while reading How Hard Can Love Be? Read it and find out if your emotions match mine.

Let me know what you are reading in your vacations and what your favorite vacation book is! Book recommendations are always welcome…

Happy Reading!
