Mehrangarh Fort - Photo Feature
Hi
everybody!
It’s
been almost a month to the amazing vacation in Rajasthan. And like you all know memories and vacay hangover are the best things to cling to. The vibe of
sipping tea and pondering vacation stories is unmatched.

A little piece of my heart left behind... |
In
the Jodhpur travelogue I’d mentioned about Mehrangarh Fort and how I fell in love
with it at first sight.
As promised here’s all my respect and adoration for this intimidating and impressive structure.

Mehrangarh
Fort is the most popular attraction of Jodhpur. If you wish to time travel, get
a glimpse of history or need to do all things touristy, then this is the place
to be. It is the most prominent structure in the city’s skyline.
I
fall short of words to describe the magnificence of the fort. (But still I’ll
woo you around, because that’s what a good writer does. Self appreciation
lessons, anyyyoneee).
The
intricate carvings and the detailed architecture is a delight to see. Amidst the
palatial royal vibe, there is an underlying ‘we were way ahead of you in time’
feel that comes complimentary.
The
palanquin, armory, miniature paintings, and the preserved collection of treasure
of Mughal times remind you of those history lessons in school.

The camera cannot do justice to the intricacy and beauty |
I
highly recommend you take a guide. They’ll walk you through the fort discussing
history and fascinating stories. Not to forget, they take amazing pictures as
well.
Perks of royalty - sword with real gold! Look at the detailed work - deer in crocodile's mouth. |
Most
forts in India have seen centuries. They’ve stood strong but there’s one thing
that most of these mighty structures could not withstand – the love stamps
(Seela loves Mehta).
It is such a happy feeling to see no such non-sense at Mehrangarh Fort. It is wonderfully maintained by the royal family of Jodhpur.

What to do while waiting ? Take pictures of course! |
I
was majorly stunned and pleasantly surprised to see it. Who can imagine an
elevator at a fort? But thanks to Maharaja Gaj Singh this wonderful idea became a reality.
Within
the fort there are beautifully crafted palaces – Moti Mahal (Pearl Palace); Sheesh
Mahal (Mirror Palace); Phool Mahal (Flower Palace) and Daulat Khana.

The
fort has featured in quite a few Bollywood films as well. Remember the dramatic मारे हिवड़ा में नाचे मोर , from Hum Saath Saath Hain. Ask your guide to show
you the gallery where the song was shot.
That's the gallery where Salmaaannnnn danced. Deep Sigh :) |
The
view of the Blue City from the fort is stunning. You can see the Jaswant Thada,
Balsamand Lake, Ghanta Ghar, Umaid Bhawan Palace, and basically the entire
city. The cool breeze, crisp sunshine, and stories laden with heroism whip up
an enchanting experience.

Jodhpur
becomes a brand new world in winters. Visit Indira Market, sit at one of the
many rooftop restaurants and admire the gorgeous fort watching over you.

Thank God for Instagram, and Thank God for Screenshots ;) |
FYI,
DOP (Deepak Sharma) is a dear friend who said ‘Directorrr, man you have to visit
Indira Market and totally fall in love with the fort mann. And coffeee...’
Hope you have a great weekend! Sending happy vibes :)
