Top 5 Sad YA Books

Hi everyone!

Back with another book post. I am a big fan of YA books and half my bookshelf is dominated by this enticing and amazing category. So I thought it’ll be a good idea to share my top 5 sad YA books with y’all.

Small joys in life!

  • All the Bright Places (Jennifer Niven)

It’s a happy sad read. Heavy TFIOS vibe, but it does have a unique charm. It fills your heart like the warmth of the morning sun and leaves you teary eyed!! Be ready for some introspection after you finish reading this marvel.

How both Violet and Finch are tied with the thread of grief and how they help each other is the best part. It is overcast with gloom, but the undercurrents of hope and speckle of romance makes it a perfect YA reading material.

  • Ketchup Clouds (Annabel Pitcher)

The story is nothing new, but the way it has been projected makes Ketchup Cloud one of my favorites. It engulfs you in Zoe’s sorrow and sadness. You feel empathetic and want to give her bear hug.

The burst of humor and happiness in between all the grief is very welcoming. Read it to find what dark secrets does Zoe have deep down in her heart.

  • Love Like Crazy (Megan Squires)

If you are looking for mushy, squishy yet sad young adult book, then Love Like Crazy is what you should be reading.

It’s not always about being perfect. It is about collecting the broken pieces and making a beautiful life. It is sad but positive and hopeful.

Eppie and Lincoln are my new Eleanor & Park. Loved how their relationship grew. The small things – love exchanges, cute text messages and those looks between them makes it very romantic.
Love Like Crazy and you’ll know the power of love!

  • Wonder (R J Palacio)

I’ll fall short of words in describing how much I loved ‘Wonder’. August (Auggie) is the real hero of the book. Fighting odds every day, he inspires and gives hope.

Read Wonder to restore your faith in friendship. You feel Auggie’s emotions, yet there is this sadness that overtakes all emotions.

It has small illustrations here and there, and the chapters of 1 – 2 pages each make it very easy to read it.

  • Marley and Me (John Grogan)

Keep in mind that a crazy dog girl is writing this. I cannot tell you how much I cried during the book and the movie. I cried even while searching for its picture on Pinterest.

If you have a pet you will relate to every word. Marley is a munchkin who you want to cuddle for the longest time possible. Super naughty and super adorable, you’ll fall in love with this furball.
I’ll not tell you why it is sad, because it’ll spoil the fun. Read it and you’ll know.

If you have read any of these books let me know how you liked them. Also if you have any book recommendations, write them below.

I’ll see you soon. Until them lose youself amidst the pages of a book to find yourself.

  1. I used to HATE YA and now I have absolutely no idea why. Wonder is one of the best books EVER. And some of the greatest books are YA literature like Eleanor & Park, The Book Thief, even Harry Potter. Now I only wanna read YA and nothing else.

    1. My Goodreads is full of YA now. Rainbow Rowell and Jojo make YA all the more dreamy...And of course raise our expectations.
