Happy Pet Grooming!

Its been a while that the blog started and then I realized, no doggie post till now! So here it is, the first doggieeee post on the blog. Bigggg Smiilleee

Pet grooming is the process to clean your pet to enhance their appearance. Grooming your pet regularly would help them look and feel better.

Why groom –
  • Enhances their overall appearance - don't we all want pretty and well groomed babies
  • Reduces infestation of parasites like ticks, fleas etc.
  • Strengthens the bond that your share with your naughty brat
  • Helps the dog be hygienic, healthy and comfortable - bathe your pet on a hot summer day and see how peacefully sleeps post that session
  •  Check for any infection, swelling, abrasion, cut or wound
  •  Good for their skin and coat would also remain shiny and healthy
  • Trimming their nails would prevent accumulation of dirt and germs

It is essential that you make grooming a part of their daily routine. Some of you may think that grooming is just for those pets who participate in dog shows and events but that is wrong. It is for each and every dog whether they are a part of a dog show or just laze and play around in the house. It caters to their complete well-being. It is that special time, which they spend with their pet, talk about things, pamper them and distress.

Basic grooming includes – bathing, general cleanliness, hair trimming, nail trimming, hair styling etc.

The grooming procedure, be it at home or at a swanky pet salon is not same for every dog. The grooming needs vary according to the breed and age of the dog. If your pet has long cot hair then they would require far more care than short haired breeds. With summers almost here, the temperature soar and it becomes your prime responsibility as a pet parent to keep them comfortable. Bathing would help your pooch cool off and he would indeed be more comfortable and playful.

The various aspects of pet grooming are –

Bathing accessories

After that refreshing bath, what can be better than cuddling your beloved in a soft towel? So get your pooch a micro fibre super soft towel and make their bathing experience happier.
·         Rubber glove
·         Pet towel

Dental Care
Oral care is a vital part of dog grooming, but it is usually the most neglected part. It is a tricky process but if done on a regular basis you can avoid a lot of dental problems. Grab the right tools and you are ready for the mission, mission – attack plaque!
·         Tooth paste
·         Foam tooth paste
·         Mouth freshener spray
·         Tooth brush

Shedding Control

Shedding is a natural phenomenon in dogs. So don’t panic if you see dog hair on the sofa, bed and clothes. What is important is how you can minimize this process and reduce the mess. There is a particular shedding season in which they would shed the maximum. You can use an anti-shed shampoo, anti-shed conditioner and the below listed tools.
·         Dog matt breaker
·         Waterless deodorizing spray
·         Deshedding tool – long hair, short hair
·         Deshedding conditioner
·         Deshedding solution

Deodorizers

Deodorizers are a great way to help combat the body odour. But it is important to note that some deodorizers are extremely strong and harsh on your pet's skin. The strong fragrance of the deodorizer may cause allergy in some dogs, so be careful.  Choose a mild deodorizer first and once your pet is accustomed to it and is comfortable you can switch to a stronger one.

Ear Care

Hearing is one of the strongest senses of a dog. And considering the anatomy of a dog ear it is normal that they develop a lot of ear problems. So before the situation worsens you should get the right tools and follow a proper ear care routine. Always clean your dog’s ear with a cleaning solution that your vet has recommended. Apply a small quantity on a cotton ball and thoroughly clean both the ears.

Dry Bathing

Too cold for your little one to have a bath? Missed the groomer appointment? Worry no more! Dry Bathing is the new trend. It would make them feel clean and happy and also eliminate the doggy smell from your home. And yes, this would save water also.

·         Dog wipes
·         Waterless bath shampoo
·         Waterless deodorizing dog spray
·         Hypoallergenic dog wipes

Shampoo

You know what the biggest mistake people do while bathing their dogs? They often use human shampoo and think that one time use would not cause any harm. There is a huge difference in the pH level of the skin of a human and a dog. Even the mildest  baby shampoo may cause skin allergy or rashes to your pet. Thus, it is essential that you pick the right shampoo.  You can choose one according to the breed, coat length and the need.
·         Aloe Vera
·         Deodorizing and disinfecting
·         Neem
·         Anti-dandruff
·         Coat brightening
·         Deep conditioning
·         Puppy
·         Aroma therapy
·         Anti-itch
·         Tearless
·         Anti-tick

·         Various fragrances like – tea tree, chocolate, honey suckle, green apple, cucumber and melon, crisp apple, peppermint, strawberry and lemonade

Happy bath time!

Conditioner

After shampooing, if you apply conditioner the coat would become softer and shinier. Choose an appropriate variant depending upon the breed and coat length of your pooch.

·         De-shedding conditioner
·         Dark coat
·         Coat glosser
·         Detangling conditioner spray
·         Lush coat

Coats and Brushes

Brushing your dog for about 10 – 15 minutes a day is a great way to get them in the grooming regime. The brushes and combs of dogs come in numerous varieties, shapes, sizes, colours, styles and designs. Choose the right comb and you are good to go.

·         Dog brush slicker
·         Steel pin brush
·         Flea comb
·         Stainless steel comb

It is advised that you seek help from your vet or a professional groomer and only then make the correct choice. Just because the fragrance of the shampoo is appealing would not mean that that shampoo is right for your beloved. Choose products keeping in mind their breed, coat length, age and be extra cautious if your pooch is allergic to certain ingredients.

So what are you waiting for, hit the pool right away and happy splashing!!!
